LIFE LESSONS FROM JOB

(Prologue) Right in the Middle of It (Psalm 88:1-18)

This sermon is the prologue to an important new series on the Book of Job. While this Psalm is challenging, we can take encouragement from it. There is only one God and the Psalmist knows it. Though he is despairing, though abandoned, he never stops trusting God. He knows God is personal and that only God can bring the salvation he needs. Right in the Middle of It 20120513BA

1. The Path to Wisdom (Job 28:1-28)

The book of Job is part of the Bible’s wisdom literature. The purpose of this literature “is not merely observation, but actually how to live life!  Job 28 takes us on an epic jopurney along the path to wisdom.  It takes us from the deep, dark places of the earth, through a market place, the depths of teh oceans, the place of the dead to the very presence of God himself. LISTENING TO JESUS

In this new series for Spring 2012, Pastor Andrew explains the importance of listening to what Jesus tells us. “Hearing the Word” in the Scriptures implies not only listening but acting on what we hear.

1. “BUT BECAUSE YOU SAY SO…” (Luke 5:1-11)

When a carpenter starts telling a fisherman how to fish, the fisherman might understandably react negatively.  However, when the fisherman (Peter) recognized there was something special about the carpenter (Jesus), he decided to follow what Jesus said. The result was life changing. But Because You Say So 20120304BA

2. HOW ARE YOU LISTENING? (Luke 8:1-21)

We apologise! We were unable to upload this sermon.

3. EVERYTHING LISTENS TO JESUS AND SO SHOULD WE (Luke 8:40-56)

Pastor Andrew show us how: Nature is no match for Jesus. The powers of hell are no match for Jesus. Disease is no match for Jesus. Death is no match for Jesus. When He speaks, they must listen. If everything listens to Jesus, then so should we. When He speaks, when we see what God says in His Word we need to listen. Because the Word not only informs and performs, it transforms. Everything Listens to Jesus and so Should We 20120318BA

4. IF THEY DO NOT LISTEN (Luke 16:19-31)

When we hear the words of Jesus, what do we do with them? When we see or hear God’s Word from the Bible, do we allow it ro influence our decisions? Pastor Andrew shows us that what we do with God’s Word not only affects our lives now but determines our eternal destiny. If They Do Not Listen 20120325AA

5. GOD SPEAKS. ARE YOU LISTENING? (Luke 9:28-36)

All God’ purposes come together in Jesus Christ. In the astounding event we know as “The Transfiguration” God re-affirms Jesus’ identity as his Son, his mission of redemption as he continues and completes the Work of God and his authority as the one we should listen to. God has spoken . . . are we listening? God Speaks. Are You Listening?20120401AA

CHRISTMAS WITH ISAIAH

Pastor Andrew’s Advent series examines some of the remarkable descriptions of the advent of Jesus and his ministry in the book of Isaiah. So complete are Isaiah’s word pictures that his book has sometimes been called “the gospel of Isaiah.”

THE INVITATION (Advent 1) Isaiah 1:1-18.

The terrible conditions of Isaiah’s day reflect our our own, but God issues the same amazing invitation today as he did then. The Invitation 20111127BA

THE PRESENCE (Advent 2) Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25

The name of ‘Immanuel,’ the son born of the virgin, is to be the watchword for God’s people, the word of hope, no matter how desperate conditions become among men. He is the hope because His name means that God is with us. This would indicate that the one born of the virgin is more than man. He is also God. Isaiah 9 would seem to support this, for there the child is called ‘Mighty God’ (Isa. 9:6). The Presence 20111204BA

THE ILLUMINATION (Advent 3) Isaiah 9:1-7

“No one is beyond the love and care of God. The coming of the Son of God is to bring light to all people, whoever they may be and wherever they may live. He is the light of nothing less than this whole world.” – Leon Morris. The Illumination 20111211BA

THE ANOINTED (Advent 4) Isaiah 61:1-11

When you say, “I am a Christian, an evangelical Christian,” you are saying “I am a Christ One, one belonging to Jesus, the Anointed of God, who proclaims good news and transforms lives.” You are saying, “Jesus has transformed my life and he can transform yours.” You are saying, “I am now a minister of God sharing his good news.” You want to help rebuild, restore and renew others. THE ESSENTIALS

Pastor Andrew’s fall/winter series explores the Fellowship Baptist’s statement of faith and explains basic Christian beliefs.

1. The Bible  (Psalm 119: 1-16 and selected Scriptures)

In this first sermon of the series, pastor Andrew answers the question, “How imortant is the Bible?” The Bible 20110918

2. God  (Isaiah 40:12-14, 18-31)

God did not intend that His attributes be studied in absence of a response on the part of His creatures. Contemplating the Creator should change the creature; meditating on the Master should make a difference in the life of the servant. – Norman Geisler.                   God 20110925

3. Jesus Christ (John 1:1-18; Colossians 1:15-23; Hebrews 1:1-3; Philippians 2:5-11)

Pastor Andrew’s thrid sermon in the series.  “The people who hanged Christ never, to do them justice, accused [Jesus] of being a bore–on the contrary, they though him too dynamic to be safe. It has been for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround him with an atmosphere of tedium (Dorothy L. Sayers). Jesus Christ 20111023BA

4. The Holy Spirit (Jer. 31:31-34; John chapters 14 & 16; Acts; Gal. 5;  1 Cor. 12-14)

Who is the Holy Spirit? What is his purpose in the world, the church, and the life of the individual Christian? In this fourth sermon of the series, Pastor Andrew answers all these questions and more from the Bible.  The Holy Spirit 20111030BA

5. Satan (Mat. 4:1-11; Mk. 3:27)

“The witness of the New Testament, then, is clear. Satan is a malignant reality, always hostile to God and to God’s people. But he has already been defeated in Christ’s life and death and resurrection, and his defeat will become obvious and complete at the end of the age.”  (New Bible Dictionary) Satan 20111106BA

6. Humanity (Mark 12:13-17)

All humans bear the image of God. There is no person on earth who does not have God’s image. All are endowed with His divine imprint, unlike anything else in creation. This truth has great implications for how we relate to others. However that image was marred when man decided to go his own way rather than the way of the one who created him. But, the great news of the gospel is that God’s image can be fully restored through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Humanity20120115BA

7. Future Things: The Living End (1 Thessalonians 4:13 – 5:8)

So sorry — we had a technical problem! We are unable to include Pastor Malcolm’s sermon describing end of time prophecies about the second coming of Christ.  However, we have uploaded the notes (.pdf) that were available for the congregation. We apologise to those of you who were waiting to hear the sermon online. Depending on your computer, the notes may take several minutes to upload. Thank you for your patience. The Living End (Notes)20120129AM  Note: The answers to the quiz can be found on the “Events and News” page of this website.

8. Salvation (John 3:16-21)

The great truths about our slavation are often expressed in really big words that can seem very difficult to understand. The death of Jesus, for example, is described as a “vicarious, expiatory, and propitiatory sacrifice.” None of us talk like this normally, but understanding the meaning of the words helps us to appreciate the amazing way God’s love has provided the gift of forgiveness and eternal life. It’s all clearly and memorably expressed in what is probably the most quoted verse in the Bible: John 3:16. Salvation 20120122BA

9. The Church (Matthew 16:13-20)

What is the Church anyway? Pastor Andrew show us that “It is God’s primary programme in the world, the visible expression of the rule of Christ, the voluntary association of those committed to Jesus as Lord (Augsburger). The Church20120212BA

10. Baptism & Communion (Acts 9:26-38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

For the Christian, the celebration of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) are powerful uses of symbol, visual reminders of what God has done for us. Baptism and Communion 20120219BA
